One day of Monk (5 Feb 2010)

Went to Mar Musa, a monastery built in 6 AD, with Arron whom I met in the hotel Damascus. They provide free food and accommodation. You don't need to do much there. You can stay as long as you want. The good part is there is no mandatory activity that you must attend except some minimal work that you'll be assigned to do after breakfast.

Every evening there is meditation and praying session in an ancient church before dinner. I'm not a religious guy. But it was wonderful to see religious activity filled up the air of this ancient space where I had gone through a lot along the journey. The experience was phenomenal as if you were back to the past when Christianity was banned and people could only do ceremony in a hidden place.

We were assigned a room which was actually a cave enclosed with a stone wall in the front. We shared the room with another Mexican. It was freezing cold up there during our visit. We needed to switch off the heat before sleeping as described in the post next to the heater. So we all got at least four blankets to keep ourselves warm enough for the bitter cold night. Actually the cave did an excellent insulation job. The room temperature wasn't as cold as we expected when we got up next morning. No wonder cave man could live in the cave for so long.
